Biochar
Biochar projects involve the pyrolysis of organic biomass to produce a stable carbon-rich material that is applied to soils, effectively sequestering carbon for hundreds to thousands of years. These projects generate carbon credits based on the net carbon stored in the biochar minus emissions from the production process. Biochar also offers co-benefits including improved soil fertility, water retention, and reduced need for synthetic fertilizers.
