Biodigesters
Biodigester projects capture methane from the anaerobic decomposition of organic waste — such as animal manure or food waste — and either flare it or convert it to energy, preventing it from entering the atmosphere. Because methane is roughly 80 times more potent than CO₂ over a 20-year period, there is potential for projects to generate significant carbon credits relative to the volume of waste processed. They are common in agricultural settings across the Global South.
