Ozone depleting substances
Ozone Depleting Substance (ODS) projects collect and destroy legacy refrigerants — such as CFCs and HCFCs — that were phased out under the Montreal Protocol but remain in old equipment and stockpiles. These substances have extremely high global warming potentials, in some cases thousands of times that of CO₂. Projects generate credits by collecting and permanently destroying these gases before they can leak into the atmosphere during equipment disposal.
