REDD+
REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) projects protect standing tropical and subtropical forests from deforestation and degradation that would otherwise occur under a business-as-usual scenario. Credits represent the carbon emissions avoided by keeping the forest standing relative to a modelled baseline deforestation rate. REDD+ is one of the largest categories in the voluntary carbon market and also one of the most scrutinized, given methodological debates around baseline setting and leakage. Note that there is a difference between project-based and jurisdictional REDD+. Both of these methodology types are included here.
