Renewable energy
Renewable energy projects generate electricity from sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, or biomass that displace more carbon-intensive grid electricity. Credits are typically calculated based on the emissions avoided relative to the grid electricity mix that would otherwise have supplied the same power. These projects used to make up the lion#s share of carbon credits issuances for a long time, but additionality and market penetration due to today's widespread adoption of these technologies have resulted in decreased potential for credit generation.
